WOMEN AND WORLD PEACE
Women
are 51% of the world population. Yet women have no comparative influence
against weapons manufacture, terrorism and wars.
Women
and children form 80% of the civilian war casualties. A century ago,
90% of war casualties were military men.
Women,
in all wars, are raped and often subject to sexual slavery. Rape is
now recognised by the UN as a distinct war crime.
Women
and children make up 80% of refugees fleeing wars, persecution and dispossession.
Women
and children's disadvantage and poverty worldwide is not redressed with
problems of hunger, health, education, childcare, homelessness and freedom
from violence. But billions of dollars are immediately available for
the terror of wars.
Women
today must renew their responsibility and leadership in outspoken resistance
to all forms of war, and demand the recognition and inclusion of
women's unique perspectives in global decision making for peace, justice
and freedom.
Women
for Peace: No Weapons No Wars Aims: A forum for the voices and struggles
of women against wars, encourage participation by women of colour, and
use the power of women's numbers (51%) for peaceful protest actions.
"Sustainable
peace will not be achieved without the full and equal participation
of women and men"

PLEDGE
WAR WITHOUT END? .. NOT IN WOMEN'S NAME
The
Women's Pledge of Resistance is based on a pledge that thousands of
people around the world have made for peace and justice. (http://www.notinourname.net)
Women's
Pledge of Resistance
Women
are 51 percent of the world's population.
As women of Australia and the world, we believe it
is our responsibility to resist the injustices done by
all governments, the military and terrorists.
Not
in women's name
will terrorists drive aeroplanes into buildings,
dictators oppress their people,
and governments bomb entire populations in mindless revenge.
Not in women's name will their labour and taxes be used to kill
women, men and children,
and this precious earth poisoned with weapons of mass destruction.
Women
don't make wars.
Women die in wars, their bodies raped,
and forced into sexual slavery for invading troops,
history taking its course for thousands of years.
Not
in women's name will this be repeated in the 21century.
Not
by our mouths will women allow the silence of fear,
not by our hearts will we allow the triumph of evil disguised as good,
not by our minds will we allow the oppression of subservience.
Not by our will and not in our name.
Women
pledge resistance to all wars, terrorism, and power domination.
We pledge alliance with people under attack for voicing opposition to
wars, their religion, race or political ideology.
There
is one human race and one world environment,
and women pledge to make common cause with all,
to achieve equality, justice, freedom and peace.
A
just and peaceful world is possible,
and women pledge to make it happen in the 21 century.
